Why your next trip belongs at Dreams Puerto Aventuras Resort & Spa
Embracing dreamy palms, a manicured marina and a newly-minted renovation, discover Unlimited-Luxury® at this amazing Mexican paradise.
Picture this: as you step out of the aircraft, the sun in this corner of the Mexican Caribbean envelops you like a friend not seen in years, offering a welcome warmth that your skin and senses have sorely missed. With luggage swept away and a chilled juice in hand at check-in, all cares become a distant memory as you take in your glorious surroundings. This is it, the retreat you’ve been waiting for, in magnificent, technicolour glory.
A brand new look
Fresh from a sweeping renovation, Dreams Puerto Aventuras Resort & Spa is close to Mexico’s Playa Del Carmen and is a bastion of design excellence, featuring a reimagined lobby, 38 new swim-out suites, refreshed rooms, restaurants, and expanded facilities including a state-of-the-art fitness centre, enhanced pools, and event venues. The resort’s Unlimited-Luxury® concept offers guests an all-inclusive experience of epic proportions, too, including limitless dining and drinks, minibars refreshed daily, themed parties and nightly entertainment, all without the faff of a cumbersome wristband. Nor do rooms disappoint, being swathed in a palette of cooling creams and icy blues with jute and other natural fibre furnishings that create an atmosphere of understated luxury, all complemented by plush, king-size beds, a practical living area and a balcony. For those with kids in tow, the resort’s family suites are well-equipped, offering 41sqm of space, pool views and enough room for six guests, including three adults. For those without, there's an adult-only restaurant, pool, whirlpool and beach area.
Among the 12 bars and restaurants offering succulent treats, from brick oven pizza, deli snacks and a gelato factory, to a sushi lounge, seafood and steak grill and an international buffet, the challenge will be sampling every outfit before the end of your stay. After a hard day of sun-worshipping, feast on fresh pasta and antipasti at Italian outpost Portofino, or sate cravings for sashimi at the decadent and recently refurbished Gohan, where Japanese hospitality will inspire awe and admiration. For a post-prandial treat, head over to Desires lounge for a nightcap, atmospheric music and sport on the big screen.
Out and about
Though beach-flopping remains the preserve of many (and long may it remain so), those after a more active retreat can plump for the resort’s suite of excursions and unique experiences. Kayaking, sailing, catamarans, snorkelling and even scuba diving are on the agenda (diving and motorised watersports are at an extra cost). Beyond the hotel, Riviera Maya's crown jewels are, of course, the Mayan temples of Tulum, a mere 20-minute jaunt away. Arrange tours with the hotel to visit the Chichen Itza, a Mayan centre for pilgrimage for more than 1,000 years, explore the coastal wetlands of the Unesco-protected Sian Ka’an Biosphere, or dive into the spectacular xenotes, the region’s naturally-occurring swimming holes. Not far from the resort, pro or wannabe golfers can tee off in style at any of the hotel’s nearby courses, such as Riviera Maya Golf Club’s Robert 36-hole course and the Nick Price-designed Gran Coyote Golf Riviera Maya, where green fees have been waived.
For water babies, the resort’s pools have undergone a full revamp, offering a designated kids’ area within the main pool, a tranquil, adults-only pool, as well as a saltwater pool for those after a more natural bathing experience. Set near the main pool, tense muscles will be revived by the resort’s two whirlpools, and children tickled for hours by the sensational new kids’ spray park.
Something for the kids
Parents know well that no resort is complete without some organised fun for the kids. The Explorer’s Club for younger children has a trampoline, a tree-planting and corn harvest educational programme as well as cooking lessons with the hotel’s executive chef. Older kids can enjoy the Core Zone, where board games, video games and pool and foosball tables offer a supreme environment for socialising.
For a moment of peace and restoration, the Dreams Spa by Pevonia® will restore and reinvigorate all who cross its threshold, which spans more than 240sqm, with five indoor and outdoor treatment cabins, a steam bath and sauna, invigorating Vichy and Swiss showers, plus reflexology, aromatherapy and native treatments to boot. Massage and body treatments are in abundance, from seaweed body wraps to Sabai mineral therapy and hot stone massage, while teens can enjoy facials using soothing papaya and strawberry, with targeted therapies for skin issues, too. All spa treatments are at an extra cost.
