Six great New Year’s Eve hotel packages for 2021

It’s never too early to plan a New Year’s getaway – especially after such tumultuous times – so why not book something to look forward to this December? Here are half a dozen brilliant options for travellers to ring in 2022 from afar

30/09/2021

Park Hyatt St Kitts Christophe Harbour, St Kitts & Nevis

White Christmases are overrated. This year, opt for a blue one instead and head to this beachfront hotel, metres from St Kitts’ crystal-clear waters. On New Year’s Eve there will be a carnival-themed dinner at the Great House restaurant, modelled on the beautiful homes in which the island’s elite once gathered. Afterwards, bid adieu to 2021 with a spin around the dancefloor (there will be live music throughout the night) before heading outside for a fireworks display. Bag one of the hotel’s Ocean View Suites if you can – you’ll enjoy stunning vistas of either the Straits of Nevis or Banana Bay. Our other top tip? Arrive on the island a week or so before New Year’s Eve. St Kitts & Nevis’s National Carnival (or Sugar Mas, as it’s referred to by locals) kicks off in early December and finishes on 2 January, making it one of the Caribbean’s longest Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Rosewood Bermuda, Bermuda

It’s all about sea and sand rather than snow at the Rosewood Bermuda, which will hold several New Year’s Eve events, including a masked ball and a four-course New Year’s Eve dinner at Sul Verde, a music-and-comedy night at the Conservatory Bar, a New Year’s Eve Gala Dinner at Island Brasserie and – for younger guests defying their bedtime – a kids-only glow disco in the ballroom. Need another reason to head to Bermuda this 31 December? As much as we love the New Year’s Eve ball drop in New York City’s Times Square, the celebrations in the Bermudan town of St George’s get a gold star for sheer quirkiness. During the annual onion drop, an enormous, illuminated onion – a tribute to what was once the island’s staple crop – is lowered from the roof of the town hall.

LUX* Grand Gaube, Mauritius

Book the LUX* Grand Gaube Mauritius’s New Year’s Eve package and you can slide into 2022 at the resort’s laidback pool party, washing burgers and ice cream down with tipples from the pop-up gin bar (we recommend the rosemary-infused variety). Alternatively, there’s the ultra-sophisticated Boho Chic New Year’s Eve dinner, during which guests can feast on seafood and steak before taking to the dancefloor in the resort’s beachfront Bedouin tent. Don’t forget to check out LUX*’s famous, bright red telephone box, from which guests can phone home for free. Although a word of warning – we’d recommend checking the weather forecast back home first. If it’s windy and rainy, bear in mind that your nearest and dearest might not be overly keen to hear about your gin- and sun-soaked getaway.

JW Marriott Bonnet Creek, Orlando

When it comes to festive destinations, it doesn’t get better than Orlando. This year, there will be a super-sized dose of anticipation for 2022, as celebrations for the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World get underway. Stay at the new JW Marriott Bonnet Creek and you’ll enjoy fantastic views of the fireworks without braving the Mickey ears-wearing masses in the park itself. Why? The hotel has a beautiful rooftop terrace from which you can soak up the displays by both the Magic Kingdom and Epcot. Although full details are yet to be confirmed, the hotel is also expected to host a special New Year’s Eve dinner. Dreading the morning after the night before? Plan ahead and book a New Year’s Day pampering session at the 9,920sqft spa. One of the most requested treatments is the Nourish Your Sole Ritual, which involves a soothing foot soak and leg massage – the perfect fix for anyone who spent New Year’s Eve strutting their stuff across the dancefloor.

Vakkaru Maldives, the Maldives

Everything screams extravagance about this particular bash, which the resort has dubbed the Glitter & Gold: Bling in The New Year Countdown Gala. Jugglers, hula hoopers, stilt walkers, acrobats and cabaret dancers will strut their stuff around the island to a soundtrack provided by a DJ and a blues band. However, the festive fun starts long before New Year’s Eve on this particular island paradise, which is a 30-minute flight (via either seaplane or domestic flight) from Velana International Airport. Between 21 December and 7 January, a packed calendar of events will celebrate not just Christmas and the New Year, but the Maldives’ Golden Jubilee Year of Tourism, which takes place in 2022. Guests at Vakkaru can sign up for jubilee-themed sports tournaments and festive-themed wellness experiences, and there will be talent shows for younger visitors.

The Royal Horseguards Hotel, London

Finishing 2021 with the ultimate staycation seems like a fitting way to end the year. The Royal Horseguards Hotel’s New Year’s Eve gala dinner, held in the property’s beautiful One Whitehall Place events space, includes a Champagne reception, six-course meal and Champagne toast at midnight. It’s a great spot from which to admire the fireworks along the river Thames, and you’ll be just a short walk from two of the capital’s most popular attractions: Big Ben and the London Eye. Bag a river view room to enjoy vistas out across the Thames and the Southbank. There’s plenty of history at this beautiful hotel, which encompasses two buildings: the National Liberal Club, a former hangout of both David Lloyd George and Winston Churchill, and a building that was once the home of the first chief of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6).
