Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort, Oman

If you’re struggling to sleep, or staving off jet lag, this mountain-perched five-star retreat has the answer in the shape of its Slumber Gurus. Sign up for their services, and they’ll proffer a dizzying array of pillows (micro-silk, buckwheat, contour massage and more) and the finest linens money can buy. Once your bed’s been kitted out in 1,000-thread-count sheets, the night-time ritual begins, backdropped by your chosen playlist of soothing tunes. There’s a choice of three themed experiences, featuring different oils, incense and treats, but our pick’s the Omani Dream. It starts with a candlelit bath, fragrant with damask roses, and run to the perfect temperature and depth. After a soak, you climb into bed for a head-to-toe frankincense-oil massage, targeting acupressure points to ease away muscle tensions. You’re left in a blissful daze (if not already gently snoring), with a glass of soothing chai and a bedtime snack of cardamom-spiked halwa. Prepare to wake up refreshed and energised, ready for a sunrise yoga session – or perhaps just breakfast in bed.

HEAD FOR HEIGHTS...
Follow a vertiginous via ferrata up and across the sheer rock face, then take a swooping zip line flight back to solid ground.

COMING UP ROSES
The Green Mountain is famed for its fragrant damask roses, used for various treatments in the spa. In spring, don’t miss the terraces of blooms and the rosewater distillery tour.

HIGH LIFE SAYS
For extraordinary views over the canyon, claim a Cliff Pool Villa and catch the pink-streaked sunset from your lounger-dotted deck, or cliff’s-edge infinity pool.
