MORNING
Can there be a more civilised way to start the day than with a flat white and a croissant? We think not. Make your first port of call a branch of Patisserie Valerie (opening image), where the aroma of fresh coffee fills the air and counters groan with indulgent pastries and gateaux. With 15 Avios for every £1 you spend, that’s your caffeine fix sorted and your Avios collection kick-started.
Now you’re ready for retail therapy. First thing on your list: a gift for a friend who’s just had a baby. Jojo Maman Bébé – which has more than 80 stores nationwide – is a one-stop-shop for maternity, babywear and childrenswear, as well as nursery furniture and toys. Will it be the adorable dungaree set, the fluffy bunny, or perhaps both? After all, you’ll earn nine Avios for every £1 you spend – that’s 414 points to put towards your next adventure with British Airways, whether it’s for a Reward Flight or cabin upgrade.
Every shopper deserves a little me-time so, if you’re in London, treat yourself to a wash and blow dry at RebelCutz or a facial at Esthe Clinic. Either way, your visit to the salon will clock up six Avios per £1. Who knew pampering had so many additional perks?

NOON
Take lunch at Benito’s, where the Mexican menu is vibrant and authentic. The chimichanga burrito, stuffed with chicken or cauliflower al pastor, refried beans and jalapeños, will transport you to sunnier climes. Turn your Mexican dream into reality by earning a whopping 25 Avios per £1 you spend and using these towards knocking money off your fare on any British Airways flight or car hire when you land.
Next stop: Harvey Nichols, which has seven stores across the UK offering the latest designer fashion, luxe beauty brands, food and wine – and you’ll earn eight Avios for every £1 (from 29 April to 15 May) you spend. Treat yourself to that Rixo maxi dress for your cousin’s wedding and the Loewe Flamenco clutch and Aquazzura gold sandals to go with it. Throw in a bottle of your favourite Jo Malone fragrance and that Christy cushion you can’t resist and you’ve accumulated 18,250 Avios. With an off-peak economy return to Europe starting from 18,500 Avios and £1 in taxes and fees, you’re well on your way to bagging a weekend in Paris.
If shopping has left you a little fatigued, reenergise at Lola’s Cupcakes with the added sweetener of earning ten Avios for every £1 you drop at one of their bakeries. Will it be the Red Velvet or the Chocolate Heaven?

AND NIGHT…
Aperitivo hour calls for bbar – a cocktail venue in SW1 set beneath a gigantic living wall. Admire the foliage by all means, but you’re here to sample the mixology. Watermelon mojito, Madagascan espresso martini, Coco Loco mocktail… with five Avios collected per £1 spent, it gives a new meaning to liquid assets.
There’s only one place to go for a steak, and that’s Gaucho, which has 17 restaurants across the country, many in quirky settings – the flagship in Piccadilly is in a former ambassadorial home, while in Manchester it’s set in a converted Methodist church. But the focus remains the same: to serve world-class Argentine beef and a bold wine list. With 5 Avios awarded for every £1, a slap-up meal for two (and we mean the works) will see you garner 1250 Avios (approximate cost of meal is £250), which you could put towards an upgrade on any British Airways, Iberia or American Airlines flight, subject to availability. Yee-ha!
Before you ride off into the sunset, let’s count up the Avios. Your day out in town has amassed you in the region of 23,000 – that’s a return economy flight to Berlin, Paris or Amsterdam. Plus, if you’ve been using your British Airways American Express® Card, you’ll have earned bonus Avios, too. Now all you need to do is go and spend them.

Upgrades
An Avios upgrade is always to the next cabin, which can vary depending on the route and airline. On a short-haul flight, you could upgrade from economy (Euro Traveller) to business (Club Europe). On a long-haul flight, you could upgrade from economy (World Traveller) to premium economy (World Traveller Plus); premium economy (World Traveller Plus) to business (Club World), or business (Club World) to First class.
We offer a limited number of reward seats on all our published flights and so they are subject to availability. There must be reward flight availability in the next cabin for you to be able to upgrade to it using Avios.
Most cash bookings can be upgraded with Avios either at the time of booking or later on, depending on availability. Only the lowest economy (World Traveller) fares (Q, O and G) cannot be upgraded with Avios at any time. You won’t be able to upgrade with Avios at the airport or on board.
