Rugby players in action in an England vs. South Africa Autumn Internationals game

Travel test matches: which top rugby destination should you visit?

The world’s greatest rugby nations battle it out next month in the Autumn Internationals, but how do their home countries square up against each other in the tourism stakes?

01/10/2024

November is a thrilling month for Rugby Union fans. The top rugby nations and stadiums of Europe will host the finest rugby teams from the rest of the world in a series of Autumn Internationals. This year’s clashes are a chance to watch New Zealand, Australia, Argentina, Japan and current world champions South Africa, plus France, Italy and the home nations of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

These countries not only produce great rugby teams, they also make fabulous holiday destinations, too. Rugby plays a sporty second-fiddle to their beautiful scenery, vibrant culture, legendary history, delicious food and, in many cases, heavyweight wines. So, how do they square up against each other as places to visit? Rory Ross picks up the ball and runs with it.
