The edit: luxury watches

Updated in 2020, Patek Philippe’s most contemporary line of women’s watches has returned to its rectangular shape with an integrated bracelet, but gains a bright blue sunburst dial (here flanked by two rows of 18 brilliant-cut diamonds) and Arabic numerals at six and 12.

H Moser’s Streamliner has to be seen to be understood, its sinuous steel bracelet is one of the most complex shapes (and also one of the most comfortable) on the market. Under the ‘Matrix green’ dial lies a high-end movement, hand finished in the finest Swiss traditions.

With its outsized Roman numerals, asymmetric diamond setting and hammered gold bracelet, this 36mm quartz-powered Trésor channels a disco-era attitude and is one of Omega’s most flamboyant designs in years. Plus, the use of ‘moonshine gold’ – a proprietary alloy with added palladium – ensures it won’t discolour.

You don’t see enough mint green watch dials, if you ask us. It’s just one option for the versatile Chronomat Automatic 36, a COSC-certified chronometer with 100m water resistance, plus a ‘Rouleaux’ bracelet with a butterfly clasp inspired by a watch produced for the Frecce Tricolori Italian air display team in 1983.

A fully openworked flyback chronograph with a GMT function (at 9 o’clock) and an annual calendar thrown in – with a bezel made from a blend of titanium and ceramic that’s super-light yet almost as tough as diamond – is pretty much par for the course at Richard Mille. Did we mention that it also looks sensational in Gulf Oil colours?

Harking back to a collection introduced in 1998, the Bvlgari Aluminium combines a lightweight case with a rubber strap and – quite unusually – a rubber bezel (complete with ‘Bvlgari Bvlgari’ inscription). Together with the crown guards and red dial details, it makes for one of the sportiest, most practical watches in the brand’s range.

It’s the Reverso’s 90th birthday this year: talk about growing old gracefully. The trademark reversible case conceals a second display with a different time zone and has a soft leather strap to match its burgundy dial, made by polo boot specialists Fagliano.

Produced in tribute to the US Navy diver who inspired the 2000 film Men of Honor, Oris’s bronze-cased 40mm dive watch houses the brand’s new in-house automatic movement, with a five-day power reserve and impressive magnetic resistance – a big step for the independent watchmaker. In a limited edition of 2,000 pieces.

In a limited edition of 500, the BR05 Skeleton replaces the traditional solid dial with a transparent layer of blue sapphire crystal that shows the automatic calibre. Central to the entire design are the alternately brushed and polished steel case and the mix of square and round shapes.

At the top of the Boy·Friend range is this skeletonised showpiece in 18ct beige gold. The anthracite and gold hand-wound movement provide a striking contrast to the rubies that ensure its smooth running. The overall look is softened by the quilted leather strap.
