It’s a smart choice for sun seekers this season, whether you’re hitting the souks, braving the surf or simply stretching out on the beaches. The city’s warming blend of former fishing port city and more modern additions make it a picture of modern Morocco. Spend the day on the beach before hitting the Souk El Had (one of the country’s largest) and heading up to the Kasbah for sunset to appreciate the blended city below from this romantic viewpoint.

Boats moored off the shores of Bodrum

Average high temperature: 27º
With its creative Bohemian vibe and golden light that lingers well into the evening, Bodrum is a dream come true for both culture lovers and beachgoers. And September is an ideal time to visit, with temperatures hovering in the high twenties, and the summer crowds having dissipated. Grab a traditional Turkish breakfast at Asmalı Çardak before wandering the cobbled streets of the Old Town and exploring the ruins of the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus (one of the Seven Ancient Wonders).
