Win a VIP trip to the 2025 Grand Prix of Qatar
Together with our oneworld® partner, Qatar Airways, you could be cheering on the riders from the Main Grandstand at the MotoGP™ Qatar Airways Grand Prix of Qatar this spring
05/03/2025
MotoGP™ is the most exciting sport on earth. The fastest bikes. The most forward-thinking manufacturers. The world’s most fearless riders. Faster. Forward. Fearless.
There’s the time the great Valentino Rossi beat five-time world champion Jorge Lorenzo by 900ths of a second at the Catalan Grand Prix. Or remember the duel between sly speeders Andrea Dovizioso and Marc Márquez at the Austrian GP, when Dovizioso set up Márquez by braking really, really late on the last turn, predicting – correctly – that his rival would go wide and let him cut in and win?
The prize
You could soon experience the rush of it all up close and personal, as our oneworld® partner, Qatar Airways, is giving one lucky winner a pair of tickets to the 2025 Qatar Airways Grand Prix of Qatar, from 11-13 April 2025. In addition to a three-day pass to access the Main Grandstand (expect incredible views of the start-finish straight, pit lane and team garages), the prize also includes economy return flights to Doha from a choice of UK airports (Heathrow, Gatwick, Birmingham, Manchester or Edinburgh), as well as four nights in a five-star hotel with breakfast, to be unveiled by Qatar Airways Holidays at the end of the prize draw period. To enter, and for full Terms and Conditions, see below. The prize draw closes at 23:59 GMT on 19 March 2025. Open to UK, Channel Islands and Isle of Man residents aged 18 or over. Only one entry per person. Promoter: British Airways.
The history
The world’s first official motorbike race, the Isle of Man TT, took off in 1907. Racing on Britain’s public roads was banned, so the self-governing island in the Irish Sea proved just the thrilling ticket. Twenty-five competitors sped and scraped the 15-mile St Johns Course, with Charles Collier of Plumstead, London winning the entire race on a Matchless motorcycle.
But it wasn’t until 1949 that the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme planned a world championship for road motorbikes, the informal inauguration of MotoGP™. Riders competed based on engine size (CC), and championships were divided between solo machines and bikes with sidecars. At the time, English and Italian brands conquered. Between 1963 and 1977, Italian Giacomo ‘Ago’ Agostini earned the title of World Champion 15 times.
Then came the master of the modern era in 1996: Valentino Rossi, also from Italy, the only rider in history to win 125, 250, 500 and MotoGP™ World Championships. The great riders of today include three-time World Champion Pecco Bagnaia from Turin – one of the few riders holding the Champion name for two consecutive years (2022 and 2023) – Jorge Martin from Madrid, nicknamed the ‘Sprint King’ for his 13 wins in the Sprint races, and Catalonian rider Marc Marquez, who became the youngest six-time World Champion at the age of 24. And, very soon, you could see the best of the best.
The destination
Doha has even more to offer than its impressive Lusail International Circuit, the star-studded, sand–strewn scene for the 2025 MotoGP™ (the 5.4km swift and smooth racetrack is one of the best in the Middle East). Qatar also offers 560km of sparkling coastline, and a walk along the Corniche promenade is essential to take in the beach bliss, and local cuisine such as machbūs, the national dish of mixed rice.
There’s also an abundance of heritage and creative charm. The bustling Souq Waqif market dates back to the late 1800s and sells everything from traditional garments such as abayas to custom-made fragrances and colourful spices, while the famous French department store Galeries Lafayette can be found at Katara Cultural Village, which also houses the magnificent Katara Mosque designed by Zeynep Fadıllıoğlu (the first female architect to specialise in mosques), its Persian and Turkish tiles in blue and gold shimmering in the sun. Don’t miss the historic sites of Msheireb Downtown, especially the four heritage houses making up the Msheireb Museums that celebrate Qatar’s history.
