Good ’hoods: Munich’s Glockenbach district
Explore one of the city’s most magnetic neighbourhoods through the eyes of a local with the help of this interactive micro guide
03/02/2025
The achingly cool Glockenbachviertel in Munich is the place to discover local designers, independent labels and traditional craftmanship, as well as an ever-evolving collection of cafés, restaurants and bars. Known for its openness, inclusivity and connection – Queen frontman Freddie Mercury hosted wild parties here in the 1980s – the area has been heavily gentrified in recent years but manages to hold on to some of its old identity and edge. With quieter streets and secluded courtyards never far from the well-trodden haunts, the area is best explored on foot. Use this interactive map to discover some highlights as you go.
